Epsom & Ewell School — SEN Specialist Refurbishment

As part of the school’s ongoing development plan, Epsom & Ewell committed to improving and enhancing its SEND provision. The works comprised refurbishing the existing Wave and Lecture Room areas (c.390m²) into a new Wave Common Room with adjacent offices, reception, classrooms and a quiet study/prayer room, plus a new Philip Southcote SEN Teaching Zone with a classroom, breakout rooms, a life skills kitchen and office space.

Overcoming Challenges
A tight term-time deadline

The work was scheduled during the school term with an expectation of minimal disruption. We arranged, with the school’s agreement, to set up welfare facilities and the site office a week early, alongside a comprehensive fire evacuation plan for visitor and subcontractor access.

Site control in a live school

All personnel were required to sign in and out using a QR code, giving the site manager a live register for any potential evacuation. Onboarding and Health & Safety documents were also made available electronically via QR code.

Project Impact

The completed renovations enable Epsom & Ewell to offer a more modern, updated environment, with more classrooms to accommodate a growing number of students. The new Breakout room gives students a tranquil space away from the distractions of a typical classroom — and the whole project was delivered four weeks ahead of schedule despite the scope of works increasing along the way.
